The College of Your Choice

As high school juniors start their school year, it becomes
apparent that one thing they need to do is start looking
for a college. If one wishes to attain a college education,
it is a good idea to begin the search process during
junior year (if not before). This is because most
applications are due by the end of the first semester or
the beginning of the second semester of a students' senior
year in high school. And it is not a bad idea to apply to
more than one school. But just as important as getting into
a college is making sure that you attend an institution
that works for you and will fit your needs.

Every student is different, and therefore a college that is
desirable for one person may not satisfy the needs of
another. The first thing that you must do before deciding
on which college to attend is figure out what you want from
your education. Will you want a large school with many
people? Or are you more comfortable with the personal
attention you would get at a smaller school? Does a program
at one school fit an interest that you have?

Similarly, you will also have to consider the environs of
the college. Are you looking for a reclusive scholarly life
or are you looking at working hard and partying harder?
Either way you will have to zero-in on a college that is
located as per your requirement. The size of the college
also should be considered among other things.

After you decide what you want from your over all college
experience, do research to find out likely schools. If
possible, plan a visit so that you can get an idea of what
the campus is like and so that you can see the school. It
also helps to correspond with a student or professor from
the college to get an 'insiders' view of life at the
school. If you cannot travel to the school, find out what
others have to say about it and read different rankings.

College is not just about a boring education. It grooms you
into the person that you will become. Making this decision
is tough and sometimes stressful but always remember that
you must go to a place where you will be at home. You must
be able to blend into the college and feel comfortable
otherwise you will lose these precious years of your life
fretting over your college life.
